At first glance, an ambrotype and a daguerreotype may appear similar. Each is mounted in a case with the image behind glass. Unlike daguerreotypes, ambrotypes do not have a mirror-like surface and they can be viewed from any angle. Color pigment was often applied to enhance the image.
